What began as a student project at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket has grown into a long-term partnership between people in Sigtuna, Sweden, and Wagve in western Kenya. Over the past twenty years, students, school staff, association members and donors have contributed to building and developing what is today the Mama Norah Education Centre.
The Support Association for The Mama Norah Education Centre has now been granted a 90-account by Svensk Insamlingskontroll, Sweden’s fundraising control organization. The association has also been approved by the Swedish Tax Agency as an eligible recipient of tax-deductible donations. These are two important milestones in a journey that has grown step by step through sustained commitment on both sides.
Behind this development lie many years of fundraising, voluntary work and close cooperation with our colleagues in Kenya. The school has grown, its activities have developed, and the organization around it has become stronger. Throughout this journey, the goal has remained the same: to give children in Wagve access to education and the opportunity for a safer and more secure future.
Today, the Support Association and the Student Association work together to maintain and develop the engagement here in Sigtuna, in close cooperation with the local organization and school leadership in Kenya. Student initiative and participation remain an important part of the work. New generations are taking over and contributing their ideas, time and energy, while the Support Association provides continuity and assumes the long-term responsibility for Swedish support.
For us, the new 90-account is both a milestone to celebrate and a responsibility to uphold. We want everyone who contributes to have confidence in how the organization operates and to be able to see what their support makes possible.
