Forward Together
Last fall, we visited the school together with a group of volunteers and witnessed firsthand the incredible progress. We continue to work towards bridging the digital divide and providing our students with the best opportunities for the future.

This effort is strongly linked to the global goals and our commitment to SDG30. By giving children and young people access to education and digital tools, we create a more equal and sustainable future.

A huge thank you for joining us on this journey – together, we make a difference!

The past year has been filled with growth, successes, and challenges for Mama Norah Education Centre. Thanks to your support, we continue to provide education and hope for the future to children and young people in our community. Here are some highlights of the year:

Significant Progress in Education

  • The school now has 284 students, and we have successfully launched a long-awaited ninth grade – a major milestone!
  • In 2024, we placed special focus on our secondary school and enhancing our teachers’ competencies, strengthening the quality of education.
  • Our students are performing exceptionally well at all levels, and we are proud of their dedication and hard work.
  • We have expanded our IT infrastructure, with more computers than ever before. Since February, the school also has unlimited Wi-Fi, opening new possibilities for digital learning.
  • An AI assistant has been introduced to support teaching, helping both teachers and students leverage new technology.
  • This year, we conducted a data training program for 24 students who graduated from high school – an important step in preparing them for the future.

Development of the School and Its Facilities

  • The construction of the auditorium/community hall progressed throughout the year, with only the ceiling, flooring, painting, and window glazing remaining. The building is already in active use, and we hope for future revenue by renting it out for various events.
  • Our focus on sustainability continues, with ongoing efforts in agriculture and further development of our sewing studio.

Finances and Future Needs

  • In 2024, we had a turnover of approximately 1 million SEK, with about 650,000 SEK allocated to operations and the rest to construction and development.
  • In 2025, operational costs are expected to increase by an additional 50,000 SEK due to the enrollment of 20 more students, as well as rising inflation and costs.
  • The school is now complete with two preschool classes, primary school grades 1–6, and secondary school grades 7–9.
  • We welcome more monthly donors willing to support a student throughout their education. With a new board member dedicated to fundraising and donor relations, you can now have a personal connection with the student you sponsor. For current monthly donors, this option is also available – please contact Robert@mamanorah.com.
  • The cost of sponsoring a primary school student is 250 SEK per month, while a secondary school student costs 300 SEK per month.

Our Next Major Challenge

We are now planning to build a Science House, as the curriculum requires laboratories for science subjects and increased digital education. To meet these requirements, we need three additional classrooms: one for ninth grade, one as a laboratory, and one as a computer lab. This is a crucial investment for future students.

Challenges We Have Faced

  • Climate change has affected us with both drought and flooding, leading to reduced harvests.
  • High inflation in Kenya has resulted in increased costs for both food and school supplies.
